Buckets up, creativity on.
The Browns Bay “from Buckets to Brilliance” is a free, family-friendly beach competition where kids can build and sculpt their best sand creations.

Open to children aged 3–14, with prizes for each age group.

About the Event

The Browns Bay “from Buckets to Brilliance” is all about imagination, effort and good old-fashioned beach fun. From castles and creatures to wild abstract sculptures, anything goes, as long as it’s built from sand on the day.

Entries are free and open to all kids aged 3–14.

Competition Categories

Little Diggers (Ages 3–6)

For our youngest builders who love digging, piling and getting sandy.
Judged on:

Effort
Imagination
Enthusiasm

Beach Builders (Ages 7–10)

For creative kids ready to build bigger and bolder.
Judged on:

Creativity
Shape and structure
Clever ideas

Sand Sculptors (Ages 11–14)

For detailed thinkers and serious sand artists.
Judged on:

Design and detail
Originality
Overall wow factor

Big Kids Build-Off

Ages 15+ (Adults)

Because adults secretly love this just as much.

This category is open to adults who want to test their skills, creativity, or simply prove they still have it.

Creativity and originality
Detail and finish
Ambition and execution

(Yes, bragging rights are very much on the line.)

Each category winner will receive a Best Build prize and some very solid bragging rights.

Event Terms & Conditions

The competition is open to children aged 3–14 years
Entries must be completed on the day using sand found at the beach
Only hand tools such as buckets and spades etc are permitted
No powered tools, pre-built moulds or outside materials
One entry per child
Parents and caregivers may supervise and encourage
Judging will take place throughout 12:00 – 2:00pm
Winners will be announced at 2:45pm
Judges’ decisions are final
Respect our environment, please take all rubbish and sand building items with you and most importantly we encourage you to have fun
